The poster is wrong. If 1 Billion Chinese COULD care less, then that means your greatest triumph has some importance to them, because there is the option to care less. What the poster intended to relate is that 1 Billion Chinese COULDN’T care less. Therefore, your greatest triumph holds no importance to them, and that it is impossible to care any less.

Yeah I thought that too Lloyd. Kind of sticks right out, doesn’t it? Maybe not to an American, ha ha. But apart from that idiotic one they were pretty good.

actually lloyd and keviene are both wrong enough: you can use could or couldn’t care less (they’re completely interchangable). Anyone who has spoken english for long will recognize either. “Couldn’t” makes sense to me, but the reason “could” also works is because the fact that there’s an option implies “They *could*, but they don’t.”. I like to use “could”, because I like to celebrate the hair-brained complexity of the lanugage.
